Robert J. Of the many significant cases Mr. Fiore has handled throughout his distinguished career, some have resulted in changes in law and business practices. For example, in Pasteur Health Plan Inc., v. Salazar, 658 So.2d 543 (Fla. 3rd DCA 1995), Mr. Fiore won the first Florida case in favor of consumers holding Health Maintenance Organization contracts are “contracts of adhesion” and deciding HMO’s are legally accountable to consumers similar to traditional insurance companies. The HMO was forced to pay over $750,000.00 in hospital/medical bills incurred by a child before he died as a result of an ATV accident, in addition to the attorneys’ fees and costs incurred by the child’s mother in litigating against the HMO. In addition, Mr. Fiore served as co-lead counsel in national diet litigation against the international weight loss chain, Nutri/System. The litigation led to several Congressional Hearings, nationwide media coverage, changes in the way the diet industry advertises services and a substantial settlement for approximately 580 claimants nationwide. Finally, Mr. Fiore represented the family of a prescription-overdose victim whose death became the centerpiece of investigative reports on South Florida’s loosely regulated pain-clinic industry. The articles were highlighted during legislative hearings that led to the passage of tighter regulations of clinics and greater scrutiny of doctors who prescribe addictive painkillers.

Throughout his legal career, Mr. Fiore has also devoted countless hours to public and pro bono service, serving in many professional and civic organizations and committees and earning numerous professional honors and civic awards. As National co-Chair of the Public Service Committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Mr. Fiore launched in Miami the first project where lawyers from around the country came together to help build homes in Goulds for Habitat for Humanity, predicting in media reports at the time that the project would go nation-wide, which it did. Further, Mr. Fiore served as co-Chair of The Dade County Courthouse, Historic Courtroom 6-1 Restoration Project, which restored the most important courtroom in the Dade County Courthouse – the courtroom where every judicial investiture takes place – to its original 1920s condition.

Mr. Fiore has also built an impressive list of speaking engagements and programs in which he either chaired or participated. These include chairing two unique professionalism programs featuring Dr. Stephen R. Covey, author of one of the most influential business books of twentieth century, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, dedicated to and attended by hundreds of lawyers, judges and legal staff. This was the first time Dr. Covey presented professionalism programs to any legal community built around the principles of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Mr. Fiore worked closely with Dr. Covey to create the programs, both of which were presented with no speaking fee.
